National Board Guidance
FAQs
I want to facilitate a Pre-Candidacy Class in my school or district. What do I need to do?
For teachers to be eligible for funding from the Arizona K12 Center, they must take our Pre-Candidacy Class. Periodically we have training opportunities available for interested NBCTs to provide this course in their school/district. Talk with the NBCTs or Candidate Support Providers (CSPs) in your district to determine who has been teaching it. If there is no one, reach out to us at info@azk12.org.
I loved the support I received and want to give back. However, I don’t feel confident in my skills. What should I do?
You may not feel confident to support an entire cohort. Get your feet wet by volunteering to help at our Coaching Saturdays. Periodically, we offer Coaching for Success, which guides NBCTs through the process of coaching a candidate through an entry. We also provide many new NBCTs the opportunity to shadow an experienced facilitator. Contact us at info@azk12.org to find which path meets your needs.
It's time to start my Maintenance of Certificate (MOC). I am out of the classroom. Can I still complete my MOC?
Yes! You can complete your MOC by borrowing a classroom. You must complete your MOC in the same certificate area, but borrowing a classroom is a definite option. Many others have taken this route and been successful.
Do you offer financial support as well as support as I go through the renewal process?
Yes! It often depends on our funding, as our priority is always first-time candidates. However, we are typically able to offset the fees by paying for a portion of the fee to renew. No matter the funding available, we offer support for NBCTs seeking to renew their National Board Certificate. Our renewal cohort is facilitated by NBCTs who have renewed their certificate and can guide you through the process.
