Need a reason to buckle down and discuss civic engagement in your classroom? Let the latest #3PsinaPod guests plead the case for doing so.

Elections are around the corner and it’s our duty, as role models and educators, to encourage students to get civically engaged. Be sure to listen to the episode of “3Ps in a Pod,”  which showcases the importance of civics, discourse, and engagement.

“The social sciences lead to great conversations that are applicable to their daily lives, even though we’re talking about history. We can take that and weave it into what is important for them today and what could be important for their future, as well,” says Nancie Lindblom, a former Arizona Teacher of the Year from Mesa Public Schools.

Parties and preferences aside, share the supplemental resource with your colleagues to help students recognize their role as a citizen.

“When students feel like their voices matter, they participate so much more. Regardless of the careers they go into, social sciences are always going to be relevant to them. It’s always important, and they always have the sense of responsibility and the sense of agency,” states National Board Certified Teacher Christie Megura from Arizona State University Preparatory Academy.
