You'd Be Surprised About the Benefits of Certification

Doing the research will help ensure your next school year is a great one.

You knew you weren’t alone … but did you know there were so many NBCTs in Arizona? You’re still an impressive bunch — after all, there are 50,800 public school teachers in the state and more than 1,100 NBCTs. Compare that to Colorado’s 890 or Utah’s 244.

Established in 1987, the National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential that complements, but does not replace, a state's teacher license. It provides the best teachers an opportunity to pursue the accomplishment and recognition that other professionals pursue in their areas of specialty.

Nationally, NBCTs advance through leadership roles. A 2014 report shows:

    • More than half of NBCTs are working as team leaders;

    • More than a third are department chairs;

    • 15 percent are staff developers and coaches; and

    • NBCTs are also serving as principals, superintendents, state government officials, state departments of education staff and college faculty.

To attend an online hybrid National Board Certification Pre-Candidacy Class, register at the Arizona K12 Center by Sept. 12.
