Scholarship and Funding

Through Arizona’s Master Teacher Program, funding is available for a limited number of scholarships for teachers to pursue National Board Certification. For the 2013-2014 cycle, we are providing two levels of funding assistance for all Arizona teachers who meet the requirements of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (i.e., hold a bachelor’s degree, completed three full years of teaching/counseling experience, possess a valid state teaching/counseling license for that period of time). The requirements for the two different levels are listed below:

$2000 Scholarship
  • Completion of a Pre-Candidacy Class sponsored by the Arizona K12 Center or in your local school district by a trained Arizona K12 Center facilitator (class must have been completed in last 3 years).
  • Attendance at the Arizona K12 Center’s National Board Summer Institute [event registration] to be held June 17-20, 2013 and pay the registration fee of $125 by May 20, 2013.
  • Register with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to be a candidate for National Board Certification and pay the $65 registration fee to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Attendance at small group meetings arranged by your Candidate Support Provider during the 2013-2014 school year.
  • Registration and attendance at three Coaching Saturdays during the 2013-2014 school year (scholarship recipients may attend three at no cost).

All teachers seeking National Board Certification will need to pay the $500 non-refundable deposit to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards by October 1, 2013. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We fully anticipate expending all funds so we encourage early application. Please note that a scholarship application may be submitted before the registration fee of $65 is paid to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Applications will be accepted from only those individuals who have completed a National Board Pre-Candidacy Class. These classes are typically offered free of charge in school districts throughout the state as well as at the Arizona K12 Center.

Pursuing National Board Certification is an experience like no other. While rigorous, it is one that brings great rewards. Please contact Jessica Ress at info@azk12.org should you have any questions about the scholarship application. The Arizona K12 Center looks forward to supporting you on your journey towards National Board Certification.
