Learn More: Scoring Process & Rubrics
An Application Scoring and Review Team scores all applications each spring. The team is comprised of National Board Certified Teachers and educators who have experience in scoring Career Ladder Portfolios and/or National Board entries.
The scoring of the Master Teacher Applications is a rigorous process. All scorers attend a mandatory training program. In this training the scoring teams are provided training regarding the scoring rubric, anti-bias training and inter-rater reliability. All scorers score a mock application and an outside group reviews to ensure the validity of the score. The scoring process is completely anonymous; therefore it is important that your name, school name, district name and any other identifiers be completely removed from your application.
To earn the designation of Master Teacher or Master Teacher Mentor, an applicant must earn a total weighted scaled score that equals or exceeds 2.75. Scoring of each component is weighted and a Score Report will be sent to each applicant and looks like the following:
| Portfolio Completed | Raw Score | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Total Weighted Score | ||
| Component 1 | X | 0.35 |
| Component 2 | X | 0.40 |
| Component 3 | X | 0.25 |
Applicants who do not meet the required 2.75 base score for distinguished performance as determined by the Arizona Master Teacher Scoring Rubric may resubmit any component for further review. A member of the Arizona K12 staff will be available to assist applicants in the revision of portfolio components. Upon resubmission, the component will be scored in the next scoring cycle and this score will replace the initial score received. A new overall weighted score will be reported and an updated Score Summary will be sent to the applicant.
