While teaching is an extremely rewarding career, it is not without its difficult and challenging moments. As a beginning teacher, the challenges can be even greater. Our Beginning Teacher Institute is designed for beginning teachers who have one to three years of teaching experience. The focus of this Institute is to help the beginning teacher prepare and meet the everyday challenges of teaching.

We will begin our time together by analyzing the latest Kagan Structures in accelerated learning, educational psychology and brain-based teaching to help teachers teach, communicate, motivate and facilitate thinking more effectively with students within their classroom. In this practical, energetic, dynamic session, teachers will hear about and experience brain-based teaching techniques you can use to seize – and hold!

Day Two will have hands on interactive sessions facilitated by Arizona Master Teachers and National Board Certified Teachers. These dynamic breakout sessions will focus on technology, classroom management, ELL strategies, College and Career Readiness Literacy Standards, College and Career Readiness Mathematics Standards, and differentiated instruction to name just a few. In the evening, we will host an optional Freedom Writers film viewing party in preparation for our keynote speaker, Erin Gruwell, on Day Three.

Day Three will focus on inspiration and motivation. It will include keynote speaker, educator, and author Erin Gruwell, the founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation. By fostering an educational philosophy that values and promotes diversity, Erin transformed her students’ lives. She encouraged students to re-think rigid beliefs about themselves and others, reconsider daily decisions, and ultimately re-chart their futures. Erin captured this journey in The Freedom Writers Diary. Erin founded the Freedom Writers Foundation where she currently teaches educators around the world how to implement her innovative lesson plans into their own classrooms. Erin continues to fight for equality in education and inspires teachers and students all over the world with her work. Her message is sure to motivate and inspire all who hear it.

Our Beginning Teacher Institute will be a celebration of teaching and learning! Make your attendance at this event part of your own personal professional growth plan.
